The elections are arriving in Britain, and although I my not be able to vote, I still like to know what my potential leader is up to, particularly in regards to education. The following is a quote from David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative party.
David Cameron said this week: “I support faith schools, I think they have a lot to bring to education. I’m in favour of choice and discretion. I think that actually drives up quality and standards in our education system. Faith schools often bring a culture and an ethos to a school that can help them improve. I’m a supporter politically and personally.”
First of all, faith schools give the complete opposite of choice. Faith schools mean that at four years old, children are forced into following one particular religion. Most of the time they don’t even have lessons about other religions. They get no choice. How can you expect a four year old child to decide the origin of the universe? Children should be taught about all faiths, not just one, and be able to decide for themselves when they are able to, instead of just following the religion of their parents.
Furthermore, faith schools segregate kids. I completely disagree with children only mixing with children who are similar to them. While I don’t agree with automatically assigning kids with the religious beliefs of their parents, a family coming from a different religion usually means a different culture as well, and it is good for young children to be friends with children who are different. Having all the kids from Christian families and all the kids from Muslim families separated will cause prejudice in the future, as well as making it less likely for them to learn about other religions and be able to make an educated decision whether or not they want to follow one.
As for “driving up quality and standards in our education system”, can’t this be done in all schools, not just ones that discriminate against a child’s parents beliefs, or the lack of them? You don’t need to scare children into eternal torment to get good GCSE results.

It has recently struck me that I haven’t made any resolutions for the new year. I’m so back at keeping them that I’ve gone the next step this year and completely forgotten that such things even exist.
Usually, I never stick to resolutions because I don’t care about them enough. My New Year’s Resolution has been, for as long as I remember, “To do my homework the night it is set”. Pfft, like it actually matters
. So this year, I’m going to set my resolutions on things I actually want to do
Maybe I’ll keep them then.
Read all the books I have bought: I have a habit of buying lots of books as soon as I have to money to, before I’ve finishEd the ones I already have. This has gone on for a few years and has left me with about 20 or so books that I own but haven’t read yet. So this year, I’m going to read them before buying more. This means that I have to avoid bookshops at all costs, because the temptation to buy more books will just be too great. I’m going to miss that smell
Look after my teeth: Last year I had to have about 10 fillings and I’d really rather not repeat the experience. This means eating fewer sweets
But I’d rather that than more mouth injections. Bleh.
Give the new Doctor a chance: The problem is, I’m sure he’ll be great, but I don’t trust that Stephen Moffat will. He’s going to turn the Doctor into James Bond, with a new girl each episode D: The Doctor is meant to save the world with his nerdiness! Not his ability to *cough* dance.
Not to waste my time on the internet when I have big exams coming up: Thinking about it, this probably won’t happen. Well it will at first, then I’ll get bored and check my email, leading me to the internet, at which point all will be lost for the rest of the day. But I want to try!
Spend a long time making a layout that I really, really like: I don’t like this one. It’s boring.
Draw More: I started doing an Art GCSE two years ago, and since then I haven’t really had a chance to draw because I want to draw; I only draw for homework. I’m going to practise drawing people, and hopefully have them resembling the people I want them to be.

THERE WAS NEW DOCTOR WHO
!!!!!!ONE!!!!11!!
-Spoilers be here-
I have to say that I loved it
It was completely bonkers, as Doctor Who should be. Also, Wilf as a companion = win.
This scene broke my soul into tiny little pieces. I dread what the next episode will do. I may just die. And I never so much as shed a tear at TV or films. Ever. But when David Tennant starts blubbing I just turn into a sobbing wreck.

OH DOCTOR D:
Now for the Master. In a dress.

And just when I thought this show could not get any better, he’s the president of the USA as well!

I can’t wait to see how all this is solved. I hope it involves lots of glitter like at the end of series three.
Also, there was a TV adaptation of Hamlet with David Tennant shown on Boxing day. Probably not the best idea, you know, to show a tradgedy at Christmas, but it was bloody brilliant. David Tennant does complete and utter madness so well.
Also Christmas happened. But that is barely important.

I’ve decorated! With tinsel and a cat and everything! And it may not look it, but I spent about two hours making snowflakes out of an old issue of New Scientist. In fact, I spent so bloody long making them I’ll do a close up of some

Now I only have three more days of school to get through, five pieces of coursework to do and four exams to revise for and then I am FREEEEEEE!

December 2nd, 2009
My site has been down for a few days because it was hacked, so I’ve basically started over. I’ve lost all of my blogs posts and comments in the process, which I must say I am a bit annoyed about. Oh well.
On the bright side, I made a Christmas layout
The thing I am most proud of are my bullet points
I love them
Anyway, I’m off to put Christmas songs back on my iPod. ‘Tis the season!
